Devard a dedicated Christian stated “I have been blessed in my life and never had to worry about my next meal, but I know there are families struggling to have life’s basic needs met and if I can provide some type of relief for these families during this difficult time it’s my desire to do so.”
About Operation Breakthrough
Founded in 1971, Operation Breakthrough is a “one-stop-shop” for low-income families located at 31st and Troost.
The core mission of Operation Breakthrough is nationally accredited child care. Operation Breakthrough cares for more than 600 children every weekday from homeless shelters, foster homes and struggling families. Because they are some of the poorest in Kansas City, Operation Breakthrough also provides on-site medical care, tutoring, mentoring, a food pantry and other emergency services for children and their families.
About As One Foundation
The mission of the As One Foundation is to provide globally the support and development of underserved youth and their families through education, athletics, and spiritual enrichment. A primary focus of the AOF is to advocate for at-risk children, youth, and their families. The foundation aspires to educate youngsters so they can achieve their highest goals — opening the doors to self-discovery, extend out-of-school learning experiences, and allow them to experience new people and places, which expands their knowledge of the world around them.
The foundation was created by Devard Darling, a young Bahamian seeking to make a difference for and through youngsters while leaving a positive impact on the world. Devard created the foundation in loving memory of his identical twin brother, Devaughn Darling, who passed away on February 26, 2001.
